Featured Pose: Fish

As we explore the theme of Receiving at the studio this month we are opening our hearts to receiving with Fish Pose. Mallory put together a series of photos with variations that increase in their level of challenge. The first image is supported fish - with a rolled blanket supporting the spine. If you come to my classes you’ll hear me talk about this pose as an incredible “posture reset.” (My Saturday morning classes usually include a supported fish all year round.) Most of us collapse forward - whether from weak torsos from too much sitting or rounded shoulders from looking down at our devices over and over - all the fish variations are incredible for opening the front of the body which makes it easier to hold upright posture. Mallory’s classes often include backbends - they are a bit of a specialty of hers - so if you want to deepen your front-of-the-body opening experience give one of her classes a try!

On an energetic level back-bends cultivate a subtle internal feeling of openness and receptivity. The fish variations are a nice relaxing ways nurture this feeling. It is not always easy to Receive - gifts, compliments, help, love… we all have tricky ways of deflecting when positive things come our way. It can take practice to become a gracious receiver and Fish Pose is a really simple way to start. All month OWY teachers are exploring these ideas! Come check us out.

We have a modified holiday schedule - today through January 1 so be sure to check our holiday hours before you venture out to your favorite class!

Open your hearts to Receiving at OWY and from us to you Happy Holidays! - Shannon
